Patagonia Footwear at High Country
We just brought in two shoes from Patagonia: the Honeydew and the Pau. Patagonia strives to make shoes that "keep you on your feet in everyday life yet have as gentle an environmental footprint as anyone yet knows how to leave."
Anyhow, we've got the Honeydew: a flexible, leather walking shoe with stretchy laces for easy on/off, and the Pau: a sturdy, wool-lined leather loafer.
Both are very nice and deserve to at least be tried on.
Check them out here or stop by the shop!

The First Annual Golden Outfitters Awards
Remember when Sylvester Stalone whipped out the bolt gun in Cliffhanger? Remember Kevin Bacon's and Sean Astin's ride down a never ending slew of Class V rapids in "White Water Summer," literally without a paddle? Remember the banjo playin' from "Deliverance's" ride down the Chattooga? Remember every single cringe inducing moment from Chris O'Donnell's 2000 opus "Vertical Limit?"
As outdoor enthusiasts, these are the moments in cinema we love to hate. These are the movies that make everyone else say, "Wow, (insert outdoor activity here) is really cool. I can't believe that (insert random Hollywood star here) is sooo hardcore!"
Numerous stars have been made into immortal outdoor gods with the help of movie magic. "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" made Angelina Jolie the first woman to free the Nose...in under an hour...with a skeleton rack of singles...and a piton hammer. And "The River Wild" showed us that Meryl Streep can be an Olympic rower and death defying (or inducing in this case) rafting guide.
To truely honor these movies, so unjustly overlooked by the Academy, we present the Oscar of Outfitters, the High Country Golden Paddle, Boot, and Biner! Given to the most unrealistic representation of an outdoor activity in the categories of Paddling, Hiking, and Climbing.
Without further ado, we present to you the winners of the Golden Outfitters Awards-

1st runner up: "The Edge"

*Just kidding, there is no clinic with Tom Cruise, this is not to be taken seriously, and neither are you if you actually want to learn climbing from Tom Cruise.

Ethan's Kayak
A customer of ours just sent us a picture of his son's eighth birthday present. He got it last year, so he must be 9 now and probably a better paddler than I am.
Keep it up Ethan!

Cool Off With Superfine Merino
Spring has sprung, so cool off with Superfine Merino from Icebreaker!
Our newest arrival for Spring, the latest from Icebreaker is sure to please.
Come check out our new lightweight merino t-shirts that are perfect both by themselves or as an underlayer on those chilly spring mornings. The Men's Tech T and the Women's GT140 Aero T are both solid additions to your new spring wardrobe.
The two-toned Aero T for women is made of Icebreaker's ultrafine merino. With its slim fit you'll look wicked hot, but thanks to the Aero's mega wicking capabilities, you'll never feel overheated. For all you gents, the Men's Kent Shirt is a sure bet for attracting the ladies. This functional yet stylish 3-button polo's got a super sweet relaxed fit and breathes like air is going out of style.
Come check it out!

Spring Mountain Hardwear is Here!
We just got our first shipment of Mountain Hardwear in the other day. We should be getting more in soon, but this is a good taste of what's to come.
Of course we got some old standards like the Men's Canyon Shirt and the Women's Wicked T, but we also brought in some new items as well.
The Duration T is similar to the Wicked T, with not quite as airy of a weave and seams designed for use with a pack. The flat-stitched seams are moved away from pack pressure points to make for more comfortable backpacking, and the addition of VisaEndurance should help limit the stench, and allow you to keep a few more of your friends. We have the Duration T in both Men's and Women's.
For performance pants, we have the Men's Matterhorn and the Women's Petra. The Matterhorn is Mountain Hardwear's full featured Men's pant with Mountain Hardwear's classic chamois-lined conical waist for backpacking comfort, zip off legs, reinforced wear areas, and enough pockets without overdoing it. The Petra has the she-climber more in mind with a more abrasion resistant material, inseam gusset for mobility, and a loop for your chalk bag.
For your early morning trail runs, be sure to check out the breathable and weather resistant Men's Chockstone 1/2 Zip.
For hanging around town, be sure to try on the breezy Wheeler Shirt and rugged Palisade Short for Men, or the versatile Butter Topper and the fun Shasta Pant for Women.
Check back later, we're sure to get some more in. We'll definitely have you well prepared for all of your summer adventures!

New "Directions" Feature
Have you ever said to yourself – "Gosh golly, I really want to go hiking/climbing/paddling but I just don't know any good areas. And if I did, how would I ever find my way there?" We hear ya, and because we've been listening we've added something new for you on the High Country Outfitters website. We've created directions to some of the hottest, most classic, most beautiful climbing, hiking, and paddling areas in the southeast, complete with maps to get you exactly where you want to go. We've also included a short description of each area to give you an idea of what to expect when you get there, along with some local beta to let you know what you'll need when you get there. No more scouring search engines or internet forums to get directions that get you just about there. Most of our directions take you to the very doorstep of your adventure, from our driveway to your destination. These directions don't end at the city your site is located in; they take you exactly where you want to go!
See the new directions section now!
Have a place that you would like to see added? Let us know!

Spring Gets Ushered In With Horny Toad

We have finally started receiving some of our new product. The first in was good bit of Horny Toad clothing. We have usually brought in just a few items from them, but this season we have fair chunk. Horny Toad is mostly a casual clothing company with a slight California style. They try to blur the line between "casual Fridays" at work and your active adventures over the weekend. They seem specialize in fabrics, and despite a ridiculous slate of fabric names, they all do feel quite nice.
Just with our initial looks, we're really liking the looks of the Men's Roots T and the Women's Laney Skirt.
Give them a look and let us know what you think.

Trail Running Season is Coming, Be Prepared

As the weather continues to warm, it's time to get off the treadmill on to the trails. We have brought in some trail runners that we really like and are getting some good feedback from our customers.
One of the most well received shoes we brought in is the La Sportiva Fireblade. This shoe gives a secure platform and moderate cushion to support your foot and still feel light on your toes. For women, we have the cushioned Imogene for those long off-road runs.
From Salomon, we have two newly developed shoes: the XA Pro 3D Ultra and the XT Wings. The XA Pro 3D Ultra is the latest incarnation of the classic XA Pro 3D, providing more cushion than the original. The XT Wings seem to offer a bit more support, with a great feeling arch to them. If you're a fan of Salomon shoes, and need a bit more support through the arch, these could be the ones for you.
And new from Vasque this season, we have the Aether Tech and the Velocity VST. The Velocity VST provides a more stable and comfortable heel strike compared to the original Velocity. The Aether Tech is a little lighter shoe with less cushion and more control. It incorporates the BOA lacing technology on the tongue for faster and easier adjustments.
Of course we still have you covered with Montrail classics such as the Continental Divide and the Nitrus, as well as seasoned waterproof veteran, Salomon's XA Pro 3D XCR.
Be sure to stop by the store to try on some new kicks for the warmer weather.
See all of our trail runners here.

High Country Switches to Google Calendar
We have moved forward and added some tech-savvy to our website. Our Upcoming Events are now on Google Calendar, which allows a lot more usability and functionality than our old method, which was more of a "throw-it-up-there-and-hope-that-it's-helpful" approach. Not that it didn't work. But now you can add the High Country Google Calendar to your Google Calendar and automatically see what's coming up. You can just add certain events as well. And it's easy to use.
I'm sure it does lots of other cool stuff, like control minds, but we just seem to use it to easily get out all the cool stuff we're doing here.
Enjoy!
